That is a Dwarf Cerith, they meet the description. The Florida Ceriths are beige, (never black), and over 1'', growing to 2''. Still a great snail- one of my favorite cleaners! The best way to tell the difference is the Florida Cerith has a red opperculum, while the dwarf cerith has almost a translucent gray opperculum.
