I think someof the die off from the corals left in your tank may or could cause some spike. did you have any fish that died, that was in the tank for awhile. or maybe you couldnt get it out.
what are you using to test for salinity ? if you are using a hydrometer they are not 100% accurate.

I agree with rob , for better test kits
