Hate to say it but more than likely you just covered up or briefly corrected the problem with a massive water change.
You need to find the root cause of it,was it a bacteria bloom ,excessive proteins and nutrients did your client add something without telling you? the list goes on.

How small is the tank that you're adding such small powerheads?

its a 26 gallon flat back hex,i believe the problem started from where they bought the tank.i have removed and redone what was done, and did the right way.added some cheato to the sump, cleaned out the snad added some cemi clean to help kill off any bad baccteria.will do another nice size water change next week, and one more dose of cemi clean and then we will see what happens....

Whoa slow down , a bit , the H20 changes are good and even fine but look and see if you can pinpoint the cause . Chemi will kill off the good bacteria as well here . You will want to try to siphion it off , then do a change you can safely do about a 50-60% h20 change till you balance it back but then taper off I had dinoflatulates and large water changes weekly for months was the only way to combat it , with it being a slime you can do more frequent smaller changes and siphion it off as you go , to help remove , I did not see is he running a skimmer ? Try that along with a turkeybaster to the rocks change out filter pads every couple days and and chemipure (not clean) to help remove the extra nutrients , What are your H20 perameters?
