Question how long can carbon sit in a reactor?

I have had basically 2 day old carbon in a reactor sitting for about a week without being turned on, can I use this or no?

I'd flush it first. Discard some of the first water that goes through it then you'd be good to go.

definitly give it a good rinse. carbon has about a month self life after that it starts releasing bad things back in to the water. except for chemi pure which lasts for 6 months and chemi pure elite which lasts 6 to 8 months

A good solid rinse, then run about 1-2 gallons of tank water through it collecting into a bucket, then let her rip in your tank..

LOL....Lee....

I run carbon actively in a TLF Reactor 24/7 x 365 in my practically full blown SPS Reef, have to disagree with you on the it removes trace elements and good bac a reef needs...

If you read up on any of the zeo vit systems or almost all SPS blown tanks, Actively running carbon, or passively running carbon is a key component...

Carbon is what gives you the crystal clear water allowing the most light penetration possible to reach your corals and assist them with their photosynthesis...
