Default Help my skimmer not working

Guys/gals, my skimmer Euro-Reef RS 80 is not working. Meaning it is not making the microbubbles inside the chamber, consequently not skimming.

I thought it was the pump, and or the airline was clogged. Nope, I took the whole thing out ot my sump, and cleaned the pump and the tubing. Put it back and nothing. I tried adjusting the valve, and still nothing. The pump is running, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the impeller.

Any ideas? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

so is it not making any bubbles at all? i would say is not pulling air, if not air bubbles are present then definitely something clogged in the venturi.

IM not positive but I believe the Euro Reef is a becket injector style skimmer, im pretty sure your air muffler is blocked, trying removing the muffler shield and blow inside of it, I bet you will see a big difference...

Good luck...

Did you try blowing air in the tube?

Wooooooohooooooo, back in business!

I pulled it out of the sump yesterday morning, and took it apart again.
Well this is what I found on the pump cover before the impeller!

The only thing I can think of is that the venturi was clogged with salt creepy. Once I cleaned the pump & the venturi, and put it back in the sump it picked up some GFO & Activated Carbon that had slipped out of the reactor creating a new blockage.
It's amazing how the slightest little thing can throw things out of whack in our reefs.

Nice catch! I had a carbon bag that I was using on my return inlet to my Snapper. The bag ruptured one day and the particles were sucked in to the impeller, clogging the outside edges. It took me taking it apart to realize what happened and having to break up the carbon particles and rinse.

My guess is that as a few particles of carbon & gfo escaped the reactor the pump pulled them in, and spun them around mixing the 2 together making a plug out of them. Which in turn clogged the air intake part of the pump causing the no bubble fractioning in the skimmer.

Murfman, I got lucky that it didn't get into the impeller.
