you could always build an algae scrubber for your tank and call it a day.

I just have a bunch of crushed coral skeletons, aka live rock rubble filling all sump buffles. There is probably 30-40 lbs of it in total.

The 2 media reactors I'm running are filled with either carbon/phosguard and ReBorn for drip denitrification.

I like this idea... I have about 30 lbs in it right now, is that enough?

The more the merrier applies here.

I think that I will take it out of the sump soon (after 4 years) to rinse out all the detritus that have accumulated everywhere. I'll just rinse everything in tank water and put everything back in. Detritus not only ads to toxic buildup but also cloges the "pores" of the live rock, minimizing surface area and choking beneficial organisms.

I don't know how much stuff accumulates in the fuge as I have a pretty brisk current going through it all but i'm sure there is plenty of crap at the bottom of each baffle.

I have another 15 lbs of dry rubble on standby to fill all empty spots.
