Default What to feed my Puffer

Hi,
Just got a puffer, was wondering what to feed him and where do I buy it. I know they need something hard to eat because of teeth but unsure where and how to feed them. Will it eat out of my hand? Thanks.

Where did you buy him from did you ask what they were feeding it? Did you see it eat before you brought home? what kind of puffer did you buy?

Puffers can be finicky eaters and sometimes take a few days to start eating after a tank change...I suggest trying some frozen krill or some Brine or Mysis Shrimp to start off with. If he has only been eating live so far you will want to get some small rosies or small crawdads until you can get it to start taking frozen food...

I would suggest avoiding hand feedings as they can give a real nasty bite...

Good luck with your new puff...

it really depends on the type of puffer. (what type of puffer is it?)

can you post a picture?

also what was the puffer eating from where ever you got the puffer from?

where did you get this puffer from?

He is a porcupine puffer and he was just eating brine shrimp. I got him from my LFS which has a great selection of healthy fish. I think I will stick with the brine shrimp but wanted something hard for his teeth. Maybe he'll eat some of my clean up crew???

On a serious note, you can go to any local beach and collect hermits, fidlers or any other crab for that matter, They will devour them filing their teeth in the process.

I collect at Plum Beach in Sheepshead Bay. YOu can get hundreds at low tide.

Not too mention anytime their teeth start to bother them they will just start chowing down on your live rock....
