Yeah u want the algae but I don't think the way u have it is what they meant lololol. Ur doing things right so pat urself on the back. As for the hermits I wouldn't get any more. 10 is enough. I'd just work on getting more snails. Ceriths nerites turbos astraes and nassarius. Maybe an emerald crab but before doing that check and see if they're compatible with cucumbers and starfish. All I have are the following snails I mentioned and 5 scarlet hermit crabs to go along with the emerald crab. No starfish no cukes. As far as lighting all depends when u are home to admire ur algae filled tank lol. I have mine setup for when I get home til about the time I goto bed. Wife is jealous of my tank cus she says I pay more attention to it then I do to her. As soon as I get home from work I sit right by my tank making sure everything is ok and do a head count lol. I don't even take my coat off! But ur doing well like I said keep up the good work cus that green crap will go away and that tank will look pristine! Few months from now we will rag on u about it when another newbie posts a tank that looks like urs! I'm still a newbie myself my tank is only 6 months old but I've learned so much from this website and reading articles that I am able to pass down my opinion on certain things.

Algae is close to fully gone guys, was my lighting schedule most likely. I also threw an emerald crab in the tank to take care of the annoying bubble algae. The bulbs I have a couple spares on top of the ones in the tank which when I bought it I was told they were a few months old. Everything seems to be happy in the tank under them for the most part. Just wish I could afford a nice MH setup. Definately not anytime soon.
