Phosban Reactor
Gsago1979 mentioned a Phosban Reactor for algae control. I think this to be a good possibility considering the prices on them are not too bad at all. Does anyone have any input on what a decent - good reactor would be for a 55 gallon tank? A lot of them do not come with pumps so looking for a pump/reactor combo. I am sure I can figure out the install part it looks pretty easy.

What about the:
AquaC XP Plus Phosphate / Media Reactor?

Anyone have any experience with this one?
I will check out the VIA one.

you don't need to spend so much for a phosbate reactor.

Ok, was looking for the VIA one you were speaking of earlier. Is this it?
Via Aqua Poly Reactor: Aquarium Equipment and Supplies - Aqua Buys
I would like to get one with a pump and everything so I don't have to run around buying multiple items and up the shipping costs. If I don't have to spend a bunch on one then that is even better. Was not sure if one worked better then others.

I have a TLF reactor and like the ease of use and the price is right. I think they are all pretty much the same design. The one you posted is about $12 more than a TLF. One thing I would note, make sure you get one that comes apart easily as you will most likely be changing the media about once a month. I think you can go longer, but I personally change mine every month. The older TLF's have a bunh of screws to take it apart and can be a bit of a pain, compared to the newer screw-on top.
You want a slow flow through the reactor, so a small PH or pump will suffice.

How many gallons per hour guys, last question. They have a Maxijet 400 that does like 106 gph. What do you run on yours?

psycho made a lot of good points.
I had the new version and the old version TLFs and the newer version is 100 times better than the thumb screw one.
If you decide to go with the ViaAqua get it from premiumaquatics.com. It's $5 cheaper.
A maxijet 404 will work for the TLF.
Don't forget to get the media when you order the reactor.

Just for reference I am running the TLF Phosban Reactor as well as the TLF Carbon Reactor...(SAME REACTOR) I am using a Maxi Jet 1200 on both of them, the flow control knob that comes with the TLF reactor is super easy to use and once I set them up I have not needed to change the flow again...Even after changing the media.
My recomendation due to my personal use is the TLF with a Maxi Jet 1200....
Just my $0.02

Sweet, I just bought a RemoraC Pro Skimmer w Mag 3 pump online and once I get it my SeaClone 100 (RIP) will be raped of it's Maxijet 1200 for the Phosban reactor. I was wondering what I would do with the old skimmer guess it will work out other than the money I spent on the Seaclone .
Thanks for input guys.

I thought I would open this back up for discussion. Drs. Foster and Smith website says 80 gph. This thread is old so I am getting ready to click the buy button on a phosban reactor because im getting fed up with algae issues as of lately... so a vote maybe?
Maxijet 1200 ---
Maxijet 400 ---
Other???
Should I stick to the recommended flow by the manufacturer or does it even matter?
Thanks!

I have 2 TLF ones. Great price. Just make sure your outlet doesnt go under water. That little backpressure will cause the O ring to leak.....Yep I made that mistake.

For the TLF I would go with the 1200, trust me once you get the media full in the Phosban reactor you will need it to get the proper tumbling in your reactor that you want...
The Media Stated to use something like 2 cups in the reactor, I fill my reactor 2/3 full of media...and the 1200 works perfectly to get the tumble...
For reference I use the exact same set up and stock amounts of media for my carbon reactor...
