Default Skimmer

I got my RemoraC Pro and put it in my tank. It had a prefilter box that is supposed to go on the pump. The thing is HUGE! It takes up waaaay too much room. Well anyways; not impressed at all with this skimmer so far. The prefilter box fell off where the hose connects the Mag 3 to the skimmer and the Mag 3 holds the prefilter box in place and shot like 2 gallons or so of water out of the back of my tank! I am definately not using this box it is a total headache. If anyone wants it shoot me an email with an offer. I am not sure why Remora designed this thing if it was this unreliable. They have a little plastic clamp that is supposed to hold the power head in place on the plastic tube. I am not so sure it even grips when putting tons of pressure on the clip. The pump has fallen off like 4 times so far.
We will see on the skimming part. I removed the box and hopefully this works better then the old skimmer I had. I heard a lot of hype on this skimmer so hope it meets expectations.

a very nice hang over skimmer but a little more then remora are the Deltec MC series. Check them out at Deltec - Aquarium Equipment - protein skimmers, turbo skimmers, calcium reactors, fluidized reactors, kalkwasser stirrers

There is always a better one unfortunately. I'm spent. It's this skimmer or bust because thats what my bank account did. Not buying another skimmer everyone swears on this one on every site and forum and product review site. Honestly right now... (I need to give it time) My 75 dollar seaclone 100 has removed more skim then this Remora C. I am sure it will behave soon here.

The heck with the skimmer box. It's a PITA. Try to get those plastic hose clamps to secure the pump on. Also, if you notice a decrease in performance check the injector? for trapped debris. My old Urchin pro used to suck in small hermits and snails all the time.

As Albfelix suggested, the Deltec hang ons are pretty good. I just picked up a used MCE 600 for $300.The price isn't too bad if you can find used. This is the best hang on that i've used so far. Best thing about these skimmers compared to the remora is that the pumps are concealed inside the skimmer.

Good Luck

I hear ya! And I agree, I purchased my remora skimmer for my little 20 g. To be honest it hasn't pulled next to nothing compared to an old Seaclone I put on the tank til I found a better one. I've done like 3 - 5g. water changes since this tank went up quite a few months ago, so it should be pulling more then it has.
I did clean the injector, raised & lowered the cup, tried to use the pre skimmer box, finially bought a gadget that attaches to the pump's intake so that it would skim from the surface of the water, and still nothing! This thing is a piece of crap in my book. I just may put the old Seaclone back on the tank, and see what happens.
