Default Dosers and Thingy-mabobs!

Ok so I've been doing a lot of reading and i'm an engineering major and some of this stuff still sounds like french to me. I can build a stand and plumb it wire all new electric and anything else. However what I can't understand is all this dosers and everything else. I understand UV's and I understand tank lighting and I even understand protien skimmers and mildly understand filtration. Okay so with that being said here's my question.

I've you've read my other thread I'm building a tank into a wall to help divide a room. This will be a main show piece and I need it to be very stable and always look amazing I need happy and active fish. So I've read a lot about keeping the PH level and whatnot and other things. What things should I add to my tank to keep it stable and always looking nice. Right now things on tap are a refugium with several different kinds of macro algae, a good protien skimmer, and thinking of maybe doing a UV since it's going to the an agressive fish only tank. What would you guys recommend to add to it?

Dosing ,,Most ppl dose alkalinity and calcium supplements. Keep a tank stable is the key to succeeding. Once you start getting corals and coralline algae they start to use these supplements . that is where dosing starts. SPS corals (hard coral) will use up these supplements faster ,there are other things ppl dose as well but those 2 and magnesium are the top 3 ppl dose. I would do some reading on them before dosing. you should also have a test kit for everything that you dose in your tank

UV ,i dont think its needed doe a reef tank(corals) i havent used mine in 3 years

If it's a FOWLR, you won't have to worry so much about dosing. Regular water changes will keep most of your parameters upto par.

UV is a must unless it's a reeftank it will KILL thing's you want in a reeftank.
But for an agressive fish only tank you will want it and a GOOD protien skimmers and your refugium with several different kinds of macro algae is a big +++ BUT the thread is NO Good with out pic's

Unfortunately I'm still in the building process. I'm actually building it into a wall that I'm building. I just wanted as much info as I could get before I got started.
