We need pictures!
I really need some pics of the following:
Diatoms
Film Algae
Hair Algae
Cyano (Red and Green- which is actually blue green but whatever...)
I want to do an article on what my customers should look for, but I just can't find any of the stuff. Thanks I would really appreciate it. There is an LFS in my area whose tanks are covered in all sorts of big nasty stuff, but I don't know how to go about asking if I can photograph their tanks.

Sure, why not.
I feel embarrased to post these pics, but this was like during the first few weeks of my hobby.
This is a pic of diatom algae that was on my sand.
I RESERVE FULL RIGHTS TO THESE PHOTOGRAPHS. jk,

Thanks Sulfur! It happened to all of us at some point in the hobby, you can't start out as an expert! Hey do you think you can talk daffy into letting me use some of those hair algae pics he has?

Here are some pics
Hair algae on the glass, rocks, and powerheads, this is not cyano.
Hair algae on the glass to the left of the fish.

Send the other purple one along too if you could, I want to check it out. I have seen something similar in some tanks, and it is a pain to get rid of. I got some too in a tank of mine, and I have been testing all sorts of creature on it. All to no avail. When I get something though I am going to be rich!

I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow. I just pruned back the bryopsis so I'm not sure how much is there to photograph. The dwarf ceriths I got from you are attacking the purple algae now. I hope there will be none left tomorrow. (I'm sure there will be)

Is the algae that is to the left of the paly the algae you are thinking of? You nerites got rid of it, but it was a translucent purple.

The one I have is a darker stringy algae that was taking over the tank. I have only seen the dwarf ceriths on it. But, they are attacking it en mass.

Great to hear! I know a guy who has been asking about the purple stuff, and I haven't been able to get an answer for him, and he doesn't have pics so maybe this will help him.

I may have a hard time getting a picture of it now. Lights haven't come on yet this morning so we'll see what is there when they do. The dwarf ceriths have attacked it with a vengance and I don't see any right now but it usually has a bloom with the lights on.

I think I might actually have a bit of cyano in my tank but I am not certain. Nor do I know what the big deal with it is. It is kind of a red color but it is only in one place in my tank and nowhere else. I was preparing to remove it here soon I'll see if I can get a picture of it. Weird thing is there is almost no algae anywhere else in the tank of any other type. Your snails have been hard at work since I started the tank. I guess nothing eats cyano. Nor do I have the slightest clue where it could have originated from. I see a redish looking hair algae in my refugium mixed in slightly with my chaeto I am wondering if that has anything to do with it. Maybe it was introduced when I bought the chaeto from the LFS.

Dwarf and regular blue legged hermits eat all algae, detritus, and your snails if you don't provide better shells for them. Hence the reason I have 1. But damn if that hermit don't just go around eating all day and night.. Amazing
I think you can guess where the hermit is.

Heres a current picture of the back wall of my 80g. I've been slacking since im trying to work on getting a bigger tank. The snails you gave me have eaten some of the hair algae but there aren't enough to compete with the growth rate of the algae.

What are those white dots you see growing on the glass?
Sulfur told me it could be calcium deposits.

Sorry Danny I can't make it out, it looks a little blurry.
The ceriths eat cyano, and all the hermits in the trade do as well. Throw them in at that area, maybe they aren't finding it. It may just be in that spot because of a lack of flow. Thanks guys, I could use these pic, will really help some of the newbies who visit my site.
All the Best,
John Maloney

Sweet! I have tons of Ceriths so hopefully they get to work on it here soon. Mostly they stick to the glass and a few rocks. It is likely they are not finding it. It is not ON the sandbed. When you look at the sides of the tank you can see that the red stuff if between the glass and the sand under the top of the sandbed. That is if it is Cyano I am presuming it is. I did a huge water change and am feeding less now. I still need to take that picture I forgot.
