Ok heres a silly question as im still new to this. how often do u need to change your filter sock and do u just clean it when u do water changes or do u just replace it with a new one? if u clean it how do u clean it? i have a sump but no filter sock and i was thinking about getting one. is it a nitrate factory having one?
thanks guys!

I change mine about every two or three days. Then I toss them in the washing machine with some bleach after that I let them air dry so that any bleach that is left can evaporate.

To elaborate a lttle more on using the washing machine, ONLY use bleach and NEVER add soap.

The larger the micron, the larger the particles can be that pass through it.

You're right. At work we use industrial size filter socks for our huge filters. I cut them up and place them in the sump where the return hose is.

I have about 5 filter socks now, I change them whenever the bubbles reach close to the top of the sock...anywhere from every 5-7 days...I let them air dry and then turn them inside out and toss them in my washing machine on hot wash with no soap no chemicals...let them dry again...turn them rightside out and repeat...
