Purple queens are tough to begin with. A few reefers here in Colorado tried them with no luck. They just will not come out of hiding. Even without the crosshatch, prolly wont come out anyways.

Casanova, try moving the crosshatch for a little while. Also, feed those anthias mysis several times a day. Yes, you will pollute your water, and you'll have to do more w/c. But in my opinion it is well worth the effort, especially since you have already bought them. Hope that helps!

Even in the best systems, purple queens just don't seem to live in captivity. Not even public aquariums seem to be able to keep them.

True, but since he already got them. I think we should try to offer him ways into how he might take care of them! But this is just my opinion.
Best wishes to you & your fishies Casanova!!

From what I understand, purple queens are deepwater anthias and are use to lower lights. Not sure what lights you have but if you are a halide user and using supplemental lighting, maybe just use your supps for a few days?

Definitely too bright! Can you change the lighting for a short while?

I got a pair of purple queens this past Sunday, a male and female. Mine have not come out either. I just saw them for a split second when I put them in the tank. I also had a pair a few months ago that lasted 3 weeks. I wish I would have known that they are deep sea fish that are shy by nature. I just thought I got a bad pair last time. They were $50,00 each too! Not cheap for an anthia!

Can you block the lighting with a few layers of window screen?

They are a stunning fish.... I am putting anthias in my 720, but I am going to stay away from the deep water fish. I just can't stand killing them.
