Default Snails , WTH !!

I find myself pick up snails off the floor and top of the tank. What is wrong with them and why do they always climb out of the tank and them selves.

Is there a reason they do that, and dont be a wise guy/gal and say they dont like your water quality im way ahead of you peeps

They think your floor needs cleaning.

Haha had to do it. An animal behaviorist would tell you that they fear predation. We have thousands of snails in our tanks, and they don't ever leave. But there is only snails in those tanks. Only found one zig zag out of the snail tank. However, I had a tank with a mean domino damsel in it years ago, and I had some snails that would leave the water during the day, and return to feed at night. This is what some of them do in the wild, (if they are not burrowing snails), so that might be it. If it is not a fish, see if you have any stinging cells around in the tank. Sometimes these will fall off urchins and the like.

Is therre no more food or waste in your display tank, they could be grazing elsewhere, since they dont have a food source in your "pristine" tank. I guess you could supply a mat of algae or something, and see what happens.

My Nerites like to take a vacation and never come back sometimes. A few slime trails behind my tank, can religiously follow them to their final resting place. They like to climb the power cables for the power heads and heater out of the tank and then fall off. The other ones just sit on the lip of the frame on top of my tank and eventually go back in the tank. I don't get what the deal is with the Nerite's but I have found about 4 so far who found their bitter end. Suicidal snails....

I dout its that clean. and it in my frag tank , where is plenty for them to eat. and my main tank has algae to eat as well. I keep an LPS tank so having pristine water is out of the question, the lps need some nutrients so i dont strip the tank of it

Hmm AWKWARD. Maybe they're too cold down at the bottom and they're going to the top where the water is warmer.

depends on what type of snail your talking about some ( nerite & margarita )spend time exposed out of water when the tide drops so they do wander out of the tank.

Any suggestions on how to keep Nerite snails IN the water or alive for longer?
