Increase flow, Lower the amount of nutrient/waste in the water.

Jess what r u running in there now? U need some sand sifters in there to keep the sandbed stirred. Also ur lighting schedule what is it like? Lots of nutrients in ur system will cause this and not enuff flow. Get a good clean up crew in there snails and hermits. That oughta help but my assumption is gonna be that u don't have enuff flow and ur running ur lights too long oh and cut back on ur feeding one more thing lol do some heavy skimming too. Siphon all that crap out.

What are all the parameters in the tank? Do you use RO/DI water? What do you consider lots of flow/what do you have making the flow? What types of lights and how long do you have them on?

Also , you may want to check you phosphates and or start running a phosphate reactor with media.

Few more questions

How old is the tank ?
How big is and how many fish ?
How many times a day or week do you feed and how much?

and , i see the skimmer outside the tank , Is it hooked up or was it hooked up

Yea, it doesn't seem like the skimmer has ever been used. I would go ahead and set that up, not only for algae control, but for reduction of nutrients, ammonia, pretty much whatever crap is in your tank.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to add a phosban reactor in there, mine has worked wonders for me.

Lastly, ask johnmaloney for a nice cleanup crew, he is the one who can clean up your tank, or at least prevent another outbreak.

He has a big conch on his site, I bought one the other day. Pretty cool to watch and it is supposed to mow down algae. My lawnmower blenny helps out and a good sized cleanup crew too. John was having a clearance sale on his site you can't really go wrong. ReefCleaners.org - Home My algae problem also went away quickly when I spent a good amount of time manually removing the algae every night for about 30 minutes a night and doing small water changes using RO water. I also reduced lighting times significantly. I ran 10k lights for a 2 hours and the low intensity lights for about 4 or less.
