Default Lighting for 75 gallon monti tank

Fuel is a b1tch and it isn't going to get better. Electric costs will also be going up and up and up. That being said I figure 500watts a month will run me about $37 not terrible but I could see that becoming $45 real soon. When you factor in return pump from the basement etc etc etc before you know it your tank costs you upwards of $100 a month.

I'm 100% positive that I could do dual 150s and have a great tank. I could also do dual 175s and have a great tank. The question is will dual 250s make that much of a difference? Realistically it will only cost an extra $10 or so a month to run 250s and the up front cost is an additional $5 or so, so it's totally negligible either way.

My sump is in the basement and is also 75 gallons. My basement stays REALLY cool and I run a dehumidifier that keeps it at 60% humidity always. It is so cool in fact that I worry about my heating having to be on all the time. The 250s may offset some work that my heater would have to do.

Also during the 95 degree days of summer my basement never gets above 80 so I'm not worried about having to run a chiller. The canopy will be well vented and I'll most likely leave glass tops on the sump to prevent evaporation in my basement. Basements can get humid and I don't need a mold issue or to run my dehumidifier more than necessary, it uses some serious juice.

Please let me know your thoughts/experiences or opinion.

Thanks

Fred

Another noteworthy mention is that if I go with 250s I might as well do a 90 instead of a 75. If I do a 90 I might as well do a 120 and then I feel like everything kind of snowballs.

Im not sure about that , heat issue that is.How was your tank (90) when it was in the livingroom , did you have any heat issue ,,,,,, Having your basement at or about 80d and your lights ,pump skimmer and the heat of the summer and the heat in the livingroom where your tank will be . You may be surprised on how hot your tank may get. Fans can help ofcourse , but i would have a chiller just in case

fritz: My tank is in the basement also, i did have to get a chiller. And yes it is running, i have the temp set to the ACJ settings and it does turn on & off my chiller. My basement is also cool and i also have a dehumidifier. I was still haveing heat issues with out the chiller. My canopy has 4 3" fans in it. You may have an issue with heat, i know i would of if i didnt have the chiller.

Hmmm
Maybe I'll just set my Air Conditioner to 79 degrees during the day.

that is the best thing , I keep my AC on 24/7 in the summer , the chiller never turns on. But its there just in case the fuse blows on the ac .. its on its own breaker
