I'm quite new here, just have to bear with me.
I work part time at a LFS, great job, great owner, just me and him. He has 30 years in this. If I don't know, (which happens a good bit lol) I know who do call to find out. The point is I do my bet to treat customers the way I would like to be treated. I'm by no means tooting my own horn. I would just rather say I don't know than fake it.
To the meat of this rant. A lady and her young daughter came in today needing a themometer, np, during the course of this we were talking. I asked how big her tank was? 20 gallons she said. OK thats cool just getting started. Couple of clowns or something like that, nope, porcupine puffer, Huh??? You said puffer??? Valentini?? no, no, a porcupine. Really, in a 20 gallon. You have any L/R? yes about 3lb rock. Hmmmmm I'm thinkin this poor puffer is toast. How long has he been in the tank? Oh less than a day we just set it up. He eats krill and is doing good. Where did you get this fish? At the other LFS down the road. OK, so when you said you just set up the tank, that means like 1-2 weeks ago with cured rock? No, No, 24 hours ago, we followed the directions on the salt bag and mixed it up( no hydrometer) let the tank sit 1/2 a day and plopped the puffer in. I asked if the other LFS advised this, she said oh yes they said it would be just fine. untill he gets bigger.
Just to get a sale can you believe it, I have read about it but never personally delt with it. I'm still just stunned lol. Truly amazing I would look at it like stealing. Anyone knowing anything knows that fish is fried unless there is a 75 gallon sump involved.
Sorry ppl just needed to vent.
