Here's the answer for question #2...there's no proper placement for monti caps. Some like a lot of light and a lot of flow some don't. U have to fiddle with them. I have a green cap that loves high flow and a lot of light but my purple cap that I got from twinreef likes low flow low light for whatever reason. My orange cap likes med flow medium light so go figure??? As for a pavona I have mine at the bottom with moderate to high flow.

I keep my pavona in 6" of water under a 400 Mogal base MH in 80 time and hour turn over. When my 720 gallon is done it will be moved under a pair of 600 watt MH but a bit deeper.

i know this is a bit late, but to rbts coments. it all depends on what the coral likes, as well as your equipment. in my experience under my HQI, greens have favored the top of the tank, purples the bottom areas, and oranges go wherever.
