Default Upgrading sump/fuge question

Hopefully someone can help me out. I want to install a bigger sump/fuge to my existing system. It currently has a couple of chambers. The first is where the water comes from the display tank and passes through a filter sock. It then goes through a series of baffles to the fuge area. The fuge contains about a 2 1/2 inch sandbed with cheato, mangroves and live rock.It then goes to the last chamber where the return pump sends the water back.I have an aqua c remora hanging on the sump as well as a phosban and carbon reactor. The reason for the new sump is I want my skimmer in it and I hate having to top off so often.
My question is when I do get the bigger sump I can't just scoop out the sand and place it in the new one right? I think I read somewhere that it's not a good idea. How can I set up my fuge(compartment) in my sump again without the chance of disrupting the balance of things and without any ill affects to my reef.
Any info is greatly appreciated
Sorry for the bad shot but I thought a visual might help. The center section with the sand is under the fans

This is what u do so u don't complicate things and mess with the balance of ur reef tank. STOP BEING LAZY AND KEEP TOPPING OFF!!!!!!!!!!! Lol or just by an ATO.

Seriously if I'm not mistaking u have to get new sand if that's what u want and ONLY use the top layer of the existing sand to "seed" it. Not sure but I think this is what u must do. Ok skila?

when i installed my new sump....i used 3/4 of the top sandbed...then i had a powerhead with a tube and ran it from the return section back to the first chamber with the skimmer running until the water turned clear....which took a few hours....and then i fired up the return pump and check for any leaks...just have your powerheads/heater in the tank running for the time being......nothing dies and evrything opened up like they always do.....just start early.....i did mine after dinner and ended up going to bed at
4am.

you can also do what the others say and use the top layer of old sand and use new sand ...its all up to you.but i would still use the method above to clear the water before you fire up the system...
