Default Ok now they've gone to far!

While surfing around last night, I stumbled on a site that is advertising their LR as "Very Rare". When is the marketing BS going to stop? Have you noticed lately rare is no longer good enough, now it has to be "Super Rare". Do people really fall for this?

yes, people do. Its very easy to fall into it anyway, I mean...you can have 5 individual sellers and 5 vendors selling 1 type of coral all at different prices, so really the newb/moderate doesn't know what is a 'bad price' especially since everyone I've asked says a bad price is one you are not willing to pay.

I buy what is pretty to me, and only pay the prices I see others paying. I shop around to get an idea of what is real and what is pure bs/adverts.

If you don't know you do not NEED special fuge mud that costs 50$ for a tiny tube you can get the equivalent from a) waiting the proper time for cycle b) find a local forum and buy lr/ls to seed your tank and hope it's good stuff

eh...there are name brand corals...

the super rare corals thingy do work thou , seems like almost every coral on ebay is super duper rare.

Ive seen radio active greens sold as rare . eagle eyes and so on. im sure after a few monthsin the hobby they learned that the super rare coral they got is really common.

They will stop when people stop buying it.

How many times have I gone on sites and see people selling anything and I say, who is going to pay that price, and sure enough!

There are two people in this hobby, the collector/hobbiest and the showoff.

Tanks are becoming more and more of a status symbol and for you to have "exotic, super rare, limited to the utmost extreme, one of a kind, world renowned, show piece, etc, etc" in your tank, is something you can point out as everyone huddles around it sipping wine and eating the strawberries in your house. So as long as there is a market that wants to "showoff" the Super rare, the laws of supply and demand will rule!

I'm with you, I absolutely hate the "Name Game", you can't get me to believe that one person can have the only piece of a certain coral in all of the oceans on the planet. Besides what ANYBODY says, you CANNOT prove the lineage of any coral.

I had someone brag to me about a coral from a certain person who they thought would impress me, little did they know, that I knew he obtained the coral from someone else and just slapped his name on it.

Want to come over to my basement and see my tank? I might have some Ritz crackers and chunky peanut butter, don't mind the piles of boxes around it and you'll need to bring your own chair, oh wait, you can sit on one of my buckets.

There are many people out there that need to build up their self esteem sadly enough! And they will do anything to accomplish this. It is not just with our hobby either. Take for instance women, and their shoes. Who the heck is Prada, and who cares. I buy what is pretty to me, fits well, and is comfortable.
My feeling is this: Why should I pay to advertise for you? You need to pay me to wear your name on my

Of course I would love to have some of the more colorful corals in my tank, but who can afford them?

It's all advertisement gimmicks. Sales people have to play the game in order to entice us to buy from them and not from the other.
