Supplements
Just wondering what supplements eveybody uses, if any at all? I've heard of people just doing water changes often w/o supplements; some only use calcium, magnesium, and a buffer; and some use everything under the sun. Just curious to see what most use here.

I use strontium and molybdenum once a week at 1ml in my 15 gallon tank. Other then that I might toss in a 1/4tsp of Kent Turbo Calcium pellets in chamber 3 in the event I think my calcium is low. Since using seachem reef salt my calcium stays at 480. Other then that I dose balance once every other day 5ml to maintain a ph of 8.1 in my nano ( which is average ) and I use eight.four 3.5ml every other day to maintain a DKH of 12 and a KH of 10. I also dose 1ml of phyto after a water change each week to treat everyone in the tank until they get fed ( once a week ) mysid on Wednesday night.
Nothing more.

i use the DIY two part irregularly. I add in a bit of Iodine, strongtium and molybdenum irregularly as well.
I want to get the essential Kent supplement but I think I just need to change my salt. I got this pail of Lab grade salt and I don't think it's as good as the instant ocean I used before. I've noticed a lot of recession on my favias that started a bit after I changed salt.
-edit, btw the alk/ca/mg shows fine on my api tests

Mostly water changes as well. Trying to stay away from as many chemicals as possible.

I dose ESV Iodine 2ml, strongtium 4 ml once a week, & Seachem magnesium 20ml everyday. It works for me.

Calcium, magnesium and a buffer, anything else has yet to be proven of need or actual use.

How many of you are testing your water? The Chemistry of the tank is one of the most important parts of the stability of the tank!!!!! It is more important then the temp!!!
Think about it like this, the ocean is so vast that the chemistry really does not change. And the fluctuations that do occur are so minor (PPB) that it does not effect anything. Everything in your tank spent millions of years evolving in a never changing environment and it is your responsibility to maintain the same parameters.
Also you should never dose anything you are not testing for. If you don't know where you are, how can you know how much to add to get where you want to be? For example, if you calcium is at 440 PPM are you going to add more? NO... But if your Calcium is at 230 PPM are you going to only add enough to get 300 PPM I hope not.
So here you go the most important chemicals to test and then dose.
Ca Calcium should be at least 380 PPM 420 to 440 is best I keep mine at 440
KH Alkalinity Depending on you test kit if you have a DKH test kit, you should be at
12 DKH to be Ionically balanced with you calcium (at 440 PPM) if your
test kit is in Meq/L, you should be at 4.0 Meq/L to be Ionically
balanced. (very important!!!)
Sr Strontium Should be between 16 to 20 Mg/L
Mg Magnesium Should be between 1350 to 1500 PPM never lower then 1350 PPM
I Iodide One of the most important!!! Never below 0.03 PPM up to 0.06 PPM
I keep mine at 0.04 PPM
Adding amino acids, trace elements, vitamins are all very important!!!
I use some of the best salts there are, and I am sorry but water changes alone will not maintain your chemistry!!!

Amino acids? Trace elements? vitamins? Iodine? If these are meant for corals, you are pretty much wasting your money.
An example of misinformation - Amino Acids
