Default TDS Testing of Tank Water

Hello all,

Just curious if anyone has tested their actual tank water for tds readings. You don't find much about it online, but the other day I decided to test my tank water by placing my tds meter in the tank.

Awhile ago I thought I tried to do that but the meter was jumping all over the place and I thought it could not be done on salt water. However, it worked and did stabilize when I tried it again.

Just curious what you guys might be getting if testing as your TDS reading IN YOUR TANKS.

My water is 0 when it goes in for a water change. I use distilled and test tds every time. I know the reading in the tank is going to have TDS since we add salt and whatever else.

I just wanted to get some figures going and see what others have.

Mine is 10 on the nose

You only got a reading of 10? My tap is 140

I just tested both of my tanks and a bucket of fresh salt mix, they are all off the charts. My meter only goes to 999

well thank you kindly Psycho.. I appreciate the response.. I really do. That is what happened to me the first time around and then it settled.. My true interest in this was finding out if anyone knew if a TDS meter worked in SALT Water. Or does the salt short it out some how? Since mine stabalized at 10, I figured " Hey it must be working in salt water" but now I am not so sure.

Thanks again!

The only TDS I test is the one going in and out of my RO filter. Things like food, salt mix, fish waste,...etc will show up on the test. Besides, my TDS meter is inline so it would be impossible, maybe not impossible, to test my tank water.

Ok I have not tested my tank water before Mynd, but now that you have tried it I will have to go home and see what my results are...I have both an inline and hand held tds meter so I will be able to test my output and see what I am getting...

My tap water going into my RO is around 143 - 145 my water coming out of the DI is between 20-22 so we will see what the tank reads at...

Bit off topic.. sorry.
G -

How is your Di cartridge installed, vertical or horizontal? Reason I ask is because I was getting a reading of 20-25 on the out put when my cartridge was laying horizontal. I rigged it so it stand vertical and my TDS has dropped to 10. I'm thinking of adding one of these to the output.

You are supposed to mount your Di cartridges vertically. I do that as well. I have not tested TDS in a while but I know the TDS in tap water in my area is really high and at exit of my RO unit it is like .003. Sorry Mynd I have never tested the TDS of my salt. I have not bought a TDS meter personally yet just tried out one a friend of mine had that was very accurate.
