In my opinion its a VERY bad idea and does not take into account that the bacteria we consider to be "good" can easily turn "evil", keeping in mind that bacteria will take advantage of any chance given to explode their population levels of which sugar does just that. With normal levels, corals and fish can ward off "good" bacteria from infecting them, but with high levels, corals and fish can become overwhelmed and infected.

Dosing Sugar or Vodka

Read about the Natureef denitrifier and it will help with understanding how methanol works as a dentrifying chemical... But this is only in a anaerobic enviroment...

Get chaeto and macroalgae. Very easy to use, works like a charm.

with any of these methods you are basically feeding the good bacteria. they are like us. drink the vodka get horney and populate..... all the new bacteria eat all the trates and then the food source is gone and all those extra bacteria die off polluting or crashing your tank. they love certain things. where I work the water treatment dfacility hates if any alcohols get there or especially phenols. the bugs go nuts and over populate. if your going to something like that do it more in a controlled way like zeovite or something....
