Default Carbon media?

I know this question may have been asked before, but i cant find an article. How long does carbon last before it starts to leach out?. And does it need to run 24/7?. Thank you , Danny.

The rule of thumb for replacing carbon is every 4 weeks like clock work.

Here is a way to determine when to replace your carbon.

When you first install a fresh batch of carbon you will notice that you do not have to clean the interior of your aquariums glass as much, with-in a few weeks and you notice that you are cleaning you interior aquarium class more often means that your carbon is getting exhausted.

Good luck!

Great question...I agree with the answers previously posted..if you are not running your carbon in a reactor though, you will need to change it more often...since its sitting in a idle state it is much more likely to become a detritus trap and should be changed about every week or so...

I've been using the salt, carbon, Kalk and filter bags from Garry and it is all quality stuff.
The salt is amazing and the filter bags are the best bags out there on the market.

It depends on the carbon brand.

I personally use a very light weight, small granular, phosphate free carbon.

If your system is low in bio-load, then you may only need about 10 oz of carbon to start with.
