Default WOW! get this...

Just got an email from a new saltwater tank owner, and this is what they planned to start with in a 14 gallon, (no refugium), based on the "excellent advise [they] receive from the LFS"

1 watchman goby
1 firefish
1 comes seahorse
1 mandarin

Add some Tiggerpods and they should be fine. How do these guys sleep at night, I hope I never mislead people like this to make a sale. Better to lose a sale and gain a customer every time. What do you guys think?

The guy who posted seems serious about planning it out and creating something sustainable, but was led astray on the livestock I think.

Wow...a 14 gallon with all that in it....Good luck...He might be able to keep them all alive for a few days...but thats if he is really lucky...

Maybe if he is growing his own pods and stuffing the tank with them on a daily basis....doing a 5% water change every other day...

Nah still too much livestock...Sea Horses are wicked messy...

I hate it when I here about people being given really bad advice..

its sad what LFS would do for a sale. ive had a partner ship with one here in ny and let me tell you , they were as crooked as the letter Y - sold a guy with 120 or 140 gal tan k 7 fish , they were all 5" + poor guy came back 5 days later with 5 dead fish , what did the store owner do , sell the guy 5 more fish

i had so much invested i had to shut up till i got my money back , once i did , all the customers taht got the shaft , were emailed and notified by yours truly

Not only all the fish, but a Mandarin to start out with. What a waste of money and more importantly life. The best thing a newbie can do is find out about and join one of the forums before they start up.
By the way John, I'm still loving those Nerite Snails. They're great.

Oh yeah been meaning to ask you.. how fast are the small ones growing?

AND they were to be added to a new tank. I also forgot LFS said to get peppermint shrimp and a large seahorse. Yum!

They are growing slowly. The larger ones are doing a great job.

I dont know how many times ive been in lfstores and the people would try to sell me something either you didnt need or want. livestock included. I usually let them speak and then start asking questions. as the conversation goes on they start to relize that they are now in deeper than they ought to be. this is where it starts to become fun. they go from trying to sell you to to trying to get out of the conversation. I figure if i do that to them they will stop trying to sell people things that arent needed and start caring about their customers.
