Default Heat !

How are you dealing with the heat and keep your tank cool !

This year i have decided to use only fans on my 90 gal and changed the MH time and hrs to be on. I use to have the MH on from 1145am to 545pm , now i have have them on from 10 am to 130pm , this way i beat the mid day heat.

I also havent turned on the ac yet. I used to keep it on all the time to keep the tank cool. I find the fans are doing there job better that the MH are on less and start 2 hrs earlier , Evaporation is about 2 gals a day thou , but better then a kick azz electric bill i also live on the top fl of a 6 fl building gving heat all day and direct heat (windows ) from 9am to 3 pm.

so far so good , i do have my chiller for back just in case.

just thought i would share my experience.

Air conditioning, just keep temp around the tank cool enough the tank itself stays cool.

Air on all day and a fan point to the surface of the tank. Temp doesn't go past 79.

I use a 12" vornado clip on fan and I also shorten the MH by 1 hr during the summer time. Temp stays around 79.

Another tip i used to do is switch the time my lights would be on during the summer. Instead of being on during the day when the temp is the hottest, i would have my lights turn on at night when the outside temp would be cooler.

tank in basement... ambient temperature is 72.3 degrees, tank runs at 76.4 during the night and gets up to like 78.4 during the day. Chiller comes on at 79. I think it has come on about once this year so far during the 100+ degree days. I run my whites from 1pm to 7pm and my actinics from 11am to 9pm, and my moonlights from 8:50 pm to 11:10am each day.

I've always had my lights come on at 4pm but during July and Aug it still gets too hot. I have fans in the canopy and the AC is on to help. I will definitely look to get a cooler for next summer.
