Default Jamaican live rock

My brother just came back from vacation and brought home some nice pieces of porous rock from the ocean. He said he washed them with water and now they are dry. Can I throw them in with the other rock im curing or should I be worried about anything?

First off, be carefull, I think it's illegal to take rock from many of the Islands.

Second, treat it like any other uncured rock, if it came from a beach or heavily populated area, I would be somewhat concerned about pollutants, we humans have little regard for what we let get into the waters.

Haha no he didnt. Lots of people collect rocks and shells on vacation. It wasnt intended for anything other than souvineirs. Its probably only 3 lbs worth but I can definately use them to make cool ledges and such.

Is cooking absolutely necessary? How do you cook them? In boiling water or bake?

If I start cycling this and seed it with some rubble can normal tests tell if its "polluted"?

Cooking rock is done to convert it from an Algae driven process to a Bacteria driven one, you don't actually cook the rock, put it in a tub of SW with a pump or PH's and preferably a skimmer and keep it in the dark for about a month.

It won't show up things such as sunblock or anything like that.

A friend of mine years ago, brough a whole suitcase of coral rubble from FL that he collected on the beach after a storm. He didn't know what it was (coral) but it looked cool so he cooked (literraly) it all and placed it into his.... ready for this....freshwater tank. When I asked about the process he recalls that it stunk like hell when he was boiling it. I was like no SH-T sherlock.
