Get a LOT of buckets!
Make more than enough new water.
If you are using sand, start rinsing it out and store it off to the side in the buckets, keep it wet. I would'nt use the old sand, it can cause problems and takes to long to clean the years of detritus out of it.
In the old tank, using a PH, blow off the rocks the best you can, let the water clear up.
Start fragging most everything off the rocks that you can. Place the corals in the buckets first and be gentle with them. Take the rest of the rock out and place in the buckets. Save 3 buckets of clean saltwater.
Drain water to a level that makes it easy to catch the fish. By doing this, it's much faster than chasing them all over the tank and puts less stress on them.
Take your fish and inverts and put them in buckets. Cover the buckets and put them somewhere dark, quiet and out of the way. The darkness will help calm the fish.
Start taking your rocks and using the 3 buckets of clean water, swish them around from bucket 1, to 2, to 3, to the new tank. This will clean them, no sense adding detritus to the new tank, do your base rocks first and always go from 1 to 2 to 3.
Once your base rocks are in add your sand.
Put a plate or plastic bag in the tank and add enough water to cover the base rocks. Pouring the water over the plate or bag will keep the "Duststorm" to a minimum.
Start stacking your rocks, try to think of where you want your corals as you stack.
Add water as you stack to keep your rock wet.
Remove plate or bag.
Add your corals. Finish filling the tank.
Add your fish and inverts.
Clean up.
Kick back, admire tank, open and consume a cold one.
